Houseplant Diseases: Symptoms and Treatment of Scab
Recognizing the Symptoms of Scab in Houseplants
Scab is a disease that mainly affects indoor plants. It appears as brown spots, sometimes surrounded by a yellow halo, on leaves, fruits and stems. These spots can develop and cause the leaves to fall. Affected plants often have a weakened general appearance, with slowed development.
Treating scab: duration and care to provide
The duration of treatment for scab may vary depending on the severity of the infection. In milder cases, simple leaf cleaning and increased attention to watering and ambient humidity may be sufficient. For more severe infections, regular application of a biological fungicide, for several weeks, may be necessary. It is also recommended to remove and destroy severely infected leaves to prevent the spread of the fungus.
The role of climate change in plant diseases
Climate change affects the health of our houseplants in several ways. Higher temperatures and increased humidity promote the spread of scab-causing fungi. Additionally, plants stressed by extreme weather conditions are more likely to develop diseases. It is therefore essential to closely monitor the health of our plants and adapt our care to these new conditions.
