How to Diagnose and Treat Houseplant Diseases: Focus on Spider Mites

Recognizing the symptoms of diseased plants

The first step towards effective care of your houseplants is knowing how to recognize the symptoms of disease. Yellowing leaves, brown spots or leaf loss are all signs that your plant may be sick. It is important to act at the first signs to limit the damage and promote healing.

Focus on Spider Mites

Spider mites are tiny mites that can cause significant damage to your houseplants. They feed on the sap of the plant, causing yellow or white spots on the leaves. In cases of severe infestation, the plant can lose its leaves and eventually die if left untreated.

Treatment of Spider Mites

Spider mite treatment begins with isolating the infested plant to prevent the mites from spreading. Then, it is recommended to clean the plant with a damp cloth to eliminate as many mites as possible. Finally, the application of a specific acaricide is necessary to completely eliminate the spider mites. This treatment should be repeated every week until the plant is completely free of mites.

The link between houseplant diseases and climate change

Climate change has a direct impact on the health of our indoor plants. Indeed, rising temperatures promote the proliferation of pests such as spider mites. It is therefore essential to adapt our care to the new climatic conditions to preserve the health of our plants.
